Judging
Alaska HOSA relies on volunteer judges — healthcare professionals, educators, and alumni — to evaluate student competitions at the State Leadership Conference.

Healthcare professionals, educators, HOSA alumni, and community leaders with relevant expertise. No prior HOSA experience is required.
Most judging assignments require one half-day or full day during the State Leadership Conference. Orientation is provided before events begin.
Judges are needed across all event categories including health science, health professions, emergency preparedness, leadership, and teamwork.
All judges receive orientation materials, scoring rubrics, and event-specific training prior to the competition. Experienced judges are paired with newcomers.
Contact the Alaska HOSA state office or complete the volunteer interest form. We'll match you with events that align with your expertise.
Not necessarily. While many events require healthcare expertise, leadership and teamwork events welcome educators and community leaders.
Judging is a volunteer activity. Judges receive complimentary meals during the conference and a certificate of appreciation.
Judges are assigned to events where they do not have a conflict of interest. You will not judge events in which your students are competing.
You'll receive rubrics and event guidelines in advance. A brief orientation session is held before each event round.
